First Ever Twitter Live Breast Check: #TouchLookCheck

Loading

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the charity Breast Cancer Now will be hosting the first ever Twitter Live breast check on Thursday 28th October 2021.

The campaign is designed to bring awareness and proactiveness towards the necessity of breast and chest checking, something which, when done correctly, can and has saved lives.

Around 55,000 women and 370 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, but the sooner the cancer is detected, the higher the success rate of treatments tend to be.

The primary way of detecting this is through regularly self-checking your breasts. The more you check, the better you get to know your breasts; and the better you know your breasts, the more likely you are to know when something feels unusual.

The issue is, however, that few of us know exactly how to conduct a breast/chest check. Breast Cancer Now recognise this issue and have therefore teamed up with Twitter to encourage people to check their breasts through a live Twitter demonstration. Alongside the live breast check, Breast Cancer Now are encouraging people to use the hashtag #TouchLookCheck to bring awareness towards the campaign.

According to research by Breast Cancer Now, over a third of British women do not regularly check their breasts. Within this, they found that over half of women forget to check, whilst others do not feel confident checking or do not know how to check at all.

Therefore, through the Twitter Live campaign, Breast Cancer Now hope to educate people on the correct way to check their breasts with the hopes of turning it into a habit.

Two thirds of breast cancers are found when women notice unusual breast changes, so it is imperative that all women do regular checks. To assist people in this process, Breast Cancer Now have released images and instructions on their social media and website to provide an accessible way to learn how to properly check your breasts.
